Watching Soul Eater (minor spoiler alert)

I found myself wanting and needing to catch up to present day anime, while preparing to make my shop’s debut in the Dealer’s Room at SpringFestNY 2014. I was at a loss when it came to what I would watch first. At the convention, there was a lady dressed up as Maka from the anime Soul Eater. Seemed like a string female lead. It looked like a cool show, so when the convention was over (and after I put the kids to sleep) I started watching it.

Soul Eater was a fun series to watch. I was surprised by how much I liked it. I was worried it was going to have too much ecchi things going on, but it was satisfyingly full of good character development, plot and thematic material. By the end of the animated series, I was still left wondering what was going on with Maka’s mother. I was waiting for her to make a bold return to Death City, with a revelation of some kind, but that didn’t come. One word: bravery. Where IS she?

I’ll have to start reading the manga to get the full scope of the story. The animated show left so many questions. It was action packed, but I would have liked to see more of what became of the students after that HUGE fight. They should do a second season, that continues the original story. There’s Soul Eater Not!, but I’m not ready to watch that just yet.

Since I watched this last month, I need to refresh and get into more characters and themes from the show. Perhaps after the next anime feature I talk about (which is a BIG one).

P.S. I love the chorus of the insert song, So Scandalous. I like to listen to it on YouTube. My kids like to say the chorus, too. ^_^
